Razer- Hypersense Suit

A sci-fi style suit designed and built in collaboration with Razer. The project was completed using a variety of materials including spandex, vinyl, and EVA foam.

Razer reached out in late February requesting a collaboration between myself (Kya) and them for their annual April Fools project. After accepting the project and being briefed on the idea, I discussed design possibilities with the creative team. Once confirmation on my designs and material choices were approved, I constructed the costume to the actor’s measurements. The costume was then shipped off to Razer for filming and production.

Design

Like any project, I began with sketching several designs. I collaborated closely with the design team and listened carefully to their ideas and visions so that I could develop a suitable design. After 3 different renditions of the suit and armor, each one adjusted based on feedback, the design was approved and finalized.

Materials

Due to the nature of the project, the costume needed to be durable and comfortable while also being fitted and sleek in appearance. To achieve this, I took material choices into heavy consideration as their selection was crucial to the overall quality and durability needed.

For the suit, I selected a black compression knit comprised of polyester and spandex as well as a hexagon embossed knit made up of polyester and spandex. The Green accent knit was a performance knit made from Nylon and spandex. All seams were sewn together using a serger. An invisible zipper was also installed in the back of the suit.

The armor was created using a combination of 6mm and 8mm EVA foam. This foam was heat shaped and sealed, sanded via Dremel, and coated in liquid rubber allowing it to maintain flexibility. The green accents and black carbon design are automotive vinyl which had been heat shaped to the foam and precisely cut.

All attachments were fabric and velcro based allowing for adjustability and comfort.

Canine Hypersense

In addition to the main suit, I also designed a version for dogs. The model wearing the canine version was Ginger who was more than happy to pose for treats! Her outfit was designed using similar shapes and themes from the original human design.

The outfit consists of a chestplate, backplate, and undershirt. The undershirt is stretchy for maximum comfort and the armor is fully adjustable.
